Grown to Run: Minnesota

Exploring novel approaches to deliver food, fiber and fuel

What is Grown to Run: Minnesota?

The Grown to Run (G2R): Minnesota project seeks to explore and create discussion with students surrounding the innovative food and agriculture practices that currently exist on the Minnesota landscape. Dr. Paul Porter, cropping systems agronomist at the University of Minnesota, and the G2R team will run and bike west to east across Minnesota over a period of seven days. Along the route, they will stop at farms, grocers, restaurants, and schools that exhibit novel and innovative ways of producing and delivering the food, fiber and fuel society needs. These visits will be videotaped and hosted in an online learning environment for middle and high school students and teachers to access each day. The multimedia will drive daily lesson plans that teachers perform with their students. The G2R Adventure Learning project builds off previous work accomplished by Dr. Paul Porter - bicycling across Africa and South America exploring international food systems with undergraduate students.

This work is funded by the University of Minnesota Institute on the Environment, and sponsored by the College of Food Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences at the University of Minnesota, and the Agronomy and Plant Genetics Department of the University of Minnesota.
